What is a soul?

First let us see what we understand by asking ourselves this question. In everyday life, we do our daily chores, part of our tasks, eat, sleep, wake up again. Ever wandered one thing? Every machine needs fuel to run similarly what is it that's running our body? What is the thing that makes us aged and die eventually. The newborns come into the world, and fill up the place of the dead person. 

In many mythologies or philosophical practices soul is considered to be the one and only essence of a living being to stay alive. Even great Greek Philosophers such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle have acknowledged the existence of soul. 

Mythological and Religious References: In Judaism and Christian mythology it is believed that only human beings have immortal souls when in Hinduism it has been believed that from a bacteria to a huge animal and human beings everyone has one particular soul. 

Scientific References: Famous 21 grams experiment conducted in 1907 by Duncan McDougall, hypothesized that after the death of a person when soul is considered to leave the body weight goes down by 21 grams. Although this experiment was considered to be biased and flawed as the sample size was really small. 

Soul: So what is a soul? I personally believe it is something which is unique but then again part of a same bigger force. Often by having a soul we consider to have a heart, which means soul often defines our characteristics, thoughts, interests. But really does it? It is a matter of argument. But the fact of having a soul within us often makes us remind that there are different forces other than us which we can only feel and mentally feel relieved. 

Soul can be a formation of different unknown particles formed as a thinner cloud or, it is a kind of supernatural diesel put in us to work and live on for a particular number of years. 

Whatever a soul may be, concept of having emotions towards the poor, feeble persons should not be described as having huge heart or huge soul. It should be present within all of us but still difference is there.
